Norwich Easter Meet
COPS swimmers took part in a high profile gala at the UEA Norwich 50m pool over the Easter Weekend. With many of the older swimmers on English Talent Camps the Flag was flown by the team of younger swimmers, all performing at or above their personal best times.
One highlight of the weekend was the performance of 12 year old Jamie Scholes, who swam 2:31.93 in his 200m Backstroke which was a
National Qualification time as well as an 8 second PB. Jamie qualified for many Regional events as well. In his 100m Backstroke he achieved a 3 second pb, achieving 1.13.99. He also won gold in the 50m Backstroke as well as a 30 Second PB in the 400m I.M where he acheived a Bronze Medal.

To fly the flag for the girls, it was another fantastic weekend for 9 year old swimmer Amelia Monaghan. She finished first in the 9 year age group in all her races, and her times would have won the 10 year old group as well.
The team of junior girls; Katie and Sophie Crowther, Lucinda Yau, Hannah Newton, Lauren Harrison, Christie Woods,Kenzie Whyatt, Poppy Richardson all performed at personal best level the whole weekend.  .12 year old Lucinda Yau also made the Finals for the 11-14 age group in the 100M Breastrooke. 2012 Olympic Trials
Four members of the City of Peterborough Swimming club together with their coach Ben Negus shared a successful time at the Olympic Pool in Stratford, London.
Harriet Lee has been selected to swim in the 100 Breast stroke at the Olympics - she has the call up she has been waiting for the last 4 years for. Her swim at the Olympic trials was one where she was competing against the best that this country had to offer. Her time of 2.21.15 saw her finish 3rd in the final, but first of the S9 swimmers. It has been a very emotional year for Harriet, who has fought through and trained hard to reach the current pinnacle of her career. Now her aim is to keep well and focussed as the Olympics draw ever nearer.
Another swimmer who achieved National Call up was Liam Knight. With his swim in the 100m Backstroke, Liam Knight gained selection for the British European Juniors time. The competition in June will be the first international experience for the Arthur Mellow s student. Liam swam a 4 second pb in his first race, the 400IM. But that was a warm up. He managed another PB for his 100 Backstroke and finished 14th in the Semi Final with a time of 57.00 seconds. He was the top ranked 17 year old. The next morning his coach, Ben Negus, was handed a brown envelope… this meant British Selection. Liam also swam in the 200 Backstroke, improving on his ranking.
The third swimmer was Zara Bailey. The 16 year old Kings student went in the 200IM race. She was ranked a lowly 10th out of 56, however after swimming a 2 second PB of 2.19.63, she ended the day in 35th place, (4th fastest time in her UK age group). The coach was pleased with this swim and now they need to work at reducing this time by a further 3 seconds.
The final team member, who swims with COPS, but lives in Lincolnshire and also competes for Spalding Town, is Chloe Hannan. Chloe swam an impressive 200m Backstroke time, in a PB of 2.19.33. She also swam in the 400IM at the beginning of the event.
